Inspiration from masters

The spirituality of the martial arts

Some martial arts styles teach their students the lineage to memorize, or begin meditation classes at the beginner level. Others allow the student to take the initiative to learn on their own. I can remember a Tai Chi instructor giving  us some unsolicited advice. He said that if we weren’t teaching children a certain breathing exercise, then we were not generating a spiritual experience. Imagine that!

It is our opinion at The Bushido School of Karate that a great martial arts instructor will do more than teach kicks and punches. How the other life skills and good character qualities are taught is in the style of the instructor. If the instructor has made a positive impression, then a spiritual experience has happened for that student.  It is not by staying within that we achieve spirituality. On the contrary, it is by giving to others that we receive spiritual grace.

Great quotes by great martial artists

Some prominent names in the martial arts are known for their mastery of skill and technique. But they also had some pretty awesome words that inspire and motivate.
