Up next in Martial Arts Fitness

Our next episode, number 3 in the 2nd series, will go live on May 21st. In the meantime, you should continue with the 2nd episode of the Series. The more you practice, the better you will be!

In the next episode we’ll be doing sets of front kick/back kick combo’s and hammer fist to the temple with 2 lb weights. If you have already practiced the techniques in the first series, you can click the links for a refresher.  If you’re just starting out, you can find all 6 episodes of the first series on our YouTube channel.

Martial Arts Fitness Series 2, Episode 2

Here’s Episode 2 in the 2nd series of CHANGE YOUR MIND, CHANGE YOUR BODY® Martial Arts Fitness by BUSHIDO KARATE .

You can easily watch all episodes in Series 1 in about an hour. I recommend that before beginning Series 2. Keep in mind, though, that becoming proficient takes time. To put it in perspective, it normally takes about 6 months for students to be comfortable enough with these techniques to be able to test for their next karate belt. And even then, these basics are practiced regularly. They are the foundation for future training.

As an art form the moves and techniques are specific. Muscle memory is a real thing, and techniques must be practiced correctly to be executed correctly. Take your time. Expect improvement and progress with each training session.

Have fun working on your upper block, down block, front and back punch and knee kicks in this episode. Points to remember:

  • Elbows should touch when fixing for upper block and down block. Squeeze your arms together and feel the pull in your shoulders.
  • Knee kicks are propelled from the hips. Think of landing a knee kick in the bully’s belly when the bully is about 2 feet away from you. Get the reach with the hips.
  • Front punch and back punches are linear techniques. Push your punches out in a straight line from shoulder to elbow to knuckles. Pay attention to your elbows when punching. Imagine walls on either side of you; your elbow would hit the wall if you’re not punching straight in.
  • Have fun, be patient, train hard!

Martial Arts Fitness Series 2, Episode 1

We spent some time videoing with courageous and willing ladies in order to bring you the first episode in the 2nd series of CHANGE YOUR MIND, CHANGE YOUR BODY® Martial Arts Fitness by BUSHIDO KARATE .

I encourage you to watch the first series to become familiar with the stances and techniques. This fitness program is modeled after traditional karate techniques to get you in the best shape ever!  The important thing to remember is that karate is an art form. You will definitely get some aerobic exercise by simply moving – but this is about doing the techniques correctly.

Series 2, Episode 1 is less than 15 minutes. It puts together upper block, lower block and knee kicks in a classroom setting. You can follow along and if at anytime you’re unsure just go back to Series 1. That is where we explain how to do the moves correctly.

I hope you enjoy these video tutorials/fitness instruction. Stick with it and practice daily! We are in the early stages of developing your new routine. Be gentle with yourself and be patient. Carefully listen to the instruction given and try to mimic the instructor. It’s not just getting it done – it’s getting it done the right way!

This is the sixth and final episode of our CHANGE YOUR MIND, CHANGE YOUR BODY® Martial Arts Fitness by BUSHIDO KARATE  series. We hope you’ve enjoyed learning the techniques used by practicing martial artists. By using all the non-contact components of our style, Martial Arts Fitness training defines muscles and strengthens core function.

The most important thing you can do is practice, rinse, repeat! You will feel better and be healthier. It starts with willingness; Change Your Mind, Change Your Body®

Back kick for a tight butt

The final episode instructs on proper technique for a back kick; one of the strongest kicks in the martial arts. All the energy in your body is collected in your hips and results in explosive power. We demonstrate the kick and how to use a wall as a guide. Then we combine back kick and front kick ending with blocks and strikes using light weights. Season 2 begins April 30th

In Season 2 we put the kicks, blocks and strikes covered in Series 1 together in total fitness formats.  Combinations keep your body moving and your brain thinking!  The first episode of the series  features a small class of students whom have watched and practiced Season 1.

Martial Arts Fitness Series 1, Episode 5

MAF Series 1, Episode 5

Our fifth episode of our CHANGE YOUR MIND, CHANGE YOUR BODY® Martial Arts Fitness by BUSHIDO KARATE  reviews techniques from past episodes, but now we’ll be alternating sides.  Great for brain training!

We’ll expand on front punch/back punch combos in this episode, too. It will require quick thinking and will produce a few giggles. Of course you’ll also be sculpting and defining your upper arms .

Introducing light hand weights

In our next series we’ll be using hand weights to increase the burn and get better results. In episode 5 we talk about what type weights you should start with.  Don’t knock yourself out (perhaps literally) by using heavy weights.  Watch this episode for our explanation of why we’re taking baby steps.
